Summer Swim Club Social
What a fun afternoon at Hacienda Gardens Swim Club! Fun was definitely had by all! We lucked out with perfect weather, tasty BBQ and yummy potluck food, and plenty of time to swim, relax, and enjoy some great conversation.

It was wonderful seeing so many friends and neighbors come together, share a laugh, and simply enjoy a beautiful afternoon in good company. Full plates, happy faces, and lots of catching up made for a pretty perfect day!

Thanks to everyone who joined in and helped make it such a fun gathering and a special thanks to Gary Oliviera for grilling all the hamburgers. We can’t wait to do it again!

HICAP: Finding the Right Help at the Right Time - Open to the community.

The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) is a Federal and State-supported program where volunteer counselors help Medicare beneficiaries of any age make informed choices about their health care and provide advocacy when benefits and rights are threatened or denied.

Please join us for an informative and practical presentation on “Finding the Right Help at the Right Time.” Jacob Sytsma, manager of Alameda HICAP, will explain the important differences between Home Health Care and Home Care, what services each provides, and when each type of care may be appropriate.

Whether you’re planning ahead for yourself, helping a loved one, or simply want to better understand your options, this is a great opportunity to learn what resources are available and where to turn when help is needed.

Come join us, bring a friend, learn something new, and get answers to your questions!

First Meeting of the Widow/Widowers Group
Thursday, September 24, 2026, 2:00 PM
Location: Home of Melissa Palleschi

PLEASE NOTE that this is a GNV members only meeting.

Let’s get together and talk about what we’d like this group to be! While grief is naturally part of our journey, this won’t be a formal grief-support group. Instead, we’re hoping to create a welcoming space where we can connect, support one another, share experiences, have some fun, and enjoy doing things together.

This is our chance to shape the group together and decide what would be most meaningful—and enjoyable—for everyone. Here are a few possibilities to get us started:
  • Social group (meet for lunch, meet for events)
  • Discussion group without a formal, trained leader
  • Meet regularly? Monthly? Quarterly? Only for specific events?
  • Speakers on related topics
  • All of the above/none of the above (open to discussion) – do you have ideas not listed here?
Contact Melissa Palleschi at 510-396-7932 or mpall@comcast.net, if you have any questions.

Location: Residence of Patrice Varga
1:00 - 2:30 pm
We will be discussing Carl Hiassen’s Fever Beach, a satirical crime novel that takes place in the author’s favorite setting—the sunny and infinitely strange state of Florida. It follows an absurd chain of events involving a bumbling white nationalist kicked out of the Proud Boys, a resilient divorcee, and a wealthy eco-warrior as they expose a web of political corruption, dark money, and election schemes.
