Help Us Start a GNV Widows & Widowers Group
GNV is considering forming a support and social group for widows and widowers. We'd love to hear from you if you're interested. We can meet to get acquainted and decide together what we'd like the group to be. GNV had a group like this in the past, and if there's enough interest, we'd be happy to start it again.

What would you like to see? Please contact Melissa Palleschi at mpall@comcast.net if you’re interested, and if you have opinions on the suggestions below.
  • Widows and widowers (or separate)
  • Social group (meet for lunch, meet for events)
  • Discussion group without a formal, trained leader
  • Meet regularly? Monthly? Quarterly? Only for specific events?
  • Speakers on related topics
  • All of the above/none of the above (open to discussion) – do you have ideas not listed here?

Backyard SocialBackyard Social
Our Backyard Gathering at Judy Hollowell’s home was a wonderful success! Villagers and their guests enjoyed a relaxing afternoon filled with great company, delicious finger foods, refreshing beverages, and plenty of friendly competition on the bocce ball court. It was a perfect opportunity to catch up with friends, welcome new faces, and enjoy fellowship in a warm and welcoming backyard setting. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the afternoon so enjoyable. Be sure to mark your calendars and make plans to join us at our next gathering on August 20th (details below) —we look forward to seeing you there!

The Book Club
Location: Residence of Nancy Eddy
August 7, 1:00 - 2:30 pm
At our August 7th meeting, we will be discussing London Falling, a nonfiction true-crime book by American journalist, Patrick Radden Keefe. It details the mysterious death in 2019 of 19-year-old Zac Brettler who jumped from a luxury London apartment into the River Thames. Afterward, his grieving parents discovered he lived a secret double life pretending to be a wealthy Russian oligarch's son. Keefe’s account takes place in a city transformed from an industrial port into a financial capital, tracing the closure of the docks, the Big Bang deregulation of 1986 ,and London’s reinvention as a magnet for foreign money. Luxury developments such as the one where Zac Brettler met his end sit conspicuously empty, their units registered through offshore trusts. His death exposes a web of deception, criminal violence, and institutional failure in the glittering British capital.

We will meet at the home of Nancy Eddy. Please register at the GNV website.
Address will be provided when you register at the GNV website.

Banter Books in downtown Fremont offers a 15% discount on this book if you mention your GNV affiliation at the checkout.

Hope to see you there!
