Quick Reminder: Social members may now request up to six services per year, including assistance with shopping, companionship on walks, or short-term support while caring for a disabled spouse or loved one. Please call 510-458-7357 if you want to request a service or for more information.

Movie Night Out!
More than 20 Villagers recently gathered for a group outing to see The Sheep Detectives. The film provided an afternoon filled with laughter, charm, and heartwarming moments, quickly becoming a favorite among the group and sparking conversation long after the credits rolled. Following the show, nearly half of the attendees spontaneously extended the fun by making dinner plans together at nearby restaurants, including Market Broiler and The Habit Burger Grill. The outing was a wonderful reminder of the friendships, connection, and sense of community that make these gatherings so meaningful.

At our June 26th meeting, we will be discussing The Correspondent, by Virginia Evans. It is an epistolary novel told entirely through the letters and emails of Sybil Van Antwerp, a 73-year-old retired lawyer. The story spans roughly a decade as Sybil writes to a colorful cast of characters: her brother, best friend, authors whose books she reads (like Joan Didion and Ann Patchett), and a bullied teen. These exchanges—and the responses she receives—slowly piece together her life story with its triumphs and profound regrets.
