About this event

The Lion Women of TehranWe will be discussing The Lion Women of Tehran, a historical novel by Marjan Kamali that explores friendship, betrayal, and political upheaval in modern Iran.

The story follows two girls from very different social backgrounds who form a deep bond in 1950s Tehran. As they grow into adulthood, their lives take divergent paths shaped by class differences, personal ambitions, and the sweeping political changes transforming Iran. Against the backdrop of revolution, repression, and social change, their friendship is tested by secrets and choices that carry lasting consequences.

Through intimate storytelling, the novel examines themes of female resilience, loyalty, sacrifice, and the cost of silence in the face of injustice, portraying how women’s lives are intertwined with the fate of their country.
