About this event

At the next meeting of the Book Club we will be discussing
The Emperor of Gladness by Ocean Vuong. The novel is about a lonely, young Vietnamese-American man named Hai who forms a life-altering bond with Grazina, an elderly, dementia-stricken Lithuanian widow, after she intervenes when he's on the verge of suicide. Set in the fictional post-industrial town of East Gladness, Connecticut, the story explores themes of chosen family, love, labor, loneliness, and the complexities of survival on society's fringes.
