MESSAGE FROM GREATER NILES VILLAGE BOARD

Greater Niles Village was founded with the express purpose of providing social networks and practical support for seniors. In this unprecedented time of pandemic, we remain committed to that mission.

We are here to aid any senior requiring assistance navigating the challenges of and resources for sheltering in place.

We are neighbors helping neighbors, working with no paid staff. More than ever, we are relying on volunteers of all ages, with an immediate need for the helping hands of younger adults who can shop for food and supplies, make deliveries or coach a senior about using tele-conferencing tools.  If you are able to help, please follow this link to our Volunteer Sign-up Page or contact us at 510-936-0214 or info@greaternilesvillage.org.

In times of uncertainty, we find strength in community. Be well and safe.

  • make friendly check-in phone calls
  • coach on using technology during “Shelter at Home” order

Contact us at 510-936-0214 or info@greaternilesvillage.org.

A MILLION THANKS

To all of you who have signed up to volunteer, a million thanks! The goal during this crisis is to help all seniors shelter in place with the comfort of a friendly call and with needed food or supplies. You make this possible.

SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS

Video conferenceGreater Niles Village has discovered technology as the way to bring neighbors together even during this period of social distancing. Many of you have discovered it, too. You can join in with Zoom or Google Hangout by clicking a link in your emailed invitation or dialing the phone number. Some of us have needed a little help getting the Zoom application on our device or allowing Hangout to use the camera on our smart phone or computer. Villagers have helped several of us get started. Call us if you’d like some help.

Open bookBook Club and Take Charge of Your Tech will continue to meet online. You’ll need an invitation to join the group. See the calendar on GreaterNilesVillage.org for Special Interest Group scheduled activities or call 510-936-0214 for information, and we will send you an invitation with the link.

While the GNV Needlework Group is on hiatus, leader Barbara King has stitched 25 non-medical masks and is making them available to Villagers. Call 510-936-0214 or email info@GreaterNilesVillage.org if you are interested.

MEANWHILE, CENSUS 2020 IS STILL UNDERWAY!

Have you completed your Census 2020? You should have gotten your Census 2020 notice in March and discovered you can complete it online or by phone in about ten minutes. Census data is completely confidential. The Census does NOT ask for citizenship or immigration status, a social security number, or any financial information.

If you need any assistance in responding to the 2020 Census, please contact GNV, email info@GreaterNilesVillage.org or call 510-936-0214.
