ANNOUNCING  THE JUDY ZLATNIK SUPPORTED MEMBERSHIP FUND

There is no more fitting title than the Judy Zlatnik Greater Niles Village Supported Membership Fund which will enable GNV membership for qualified Niles residents. It was Judy Zlatnik who introduced the Village concept to her Niles neighbors and initiated the GNV Steering Committee.

Judy recalls, “I learned about the Village Movement in 2014. I went to the National Villages convention in 2015 and to several regional Village meetings in the Bay Area. I could clearly see that a better experience of aging is possible when Villagers can grow with and rely on each other. In October, 2016, I sent out emails to 67 Niles area residents and met with those who expressed interest.”

Judy has lived in Niles for 43 years. Dedicated to social justice issues, she has tirelessly served her community in volunteer and Board positions with the League of Women Voters, Fremont City Council, Meals on Wheels, LIFE ElderCare, Niles Main Street Association, and Greater Niles Village. She was also instrumental in passing the first hill initiative, which has prevented building on the Niles hills. As a member of Niles United Church of Christ and later Niles Discovery Church, Judy chairs the Ministry of Social Concerns.

In Judy’s words, “I’m honored to have my name associated with “Judy’s Fund” because I have a lifelong interest in caring for those in need, especially our low-income residents and frail elderly. I am thrilled that this Fund will make the benefits of GNV accessible to all Villagers as we navigate the opportunities and challenges of aging.”

Built by our members, for our members

GNV is a non-profit, member-supported organization led by a Board of Directors. We share our skills and support to navigate the challenges and opportunities of aging. Villagers are making GNV a reality -- by volunteering their expertise and by becoming Visionary members. We will remain in charge our lives as we help each other to form social networks and secure practical assistance.
